Abstract

One of the stages of regional economic development is the determination
of the leading sectors in an area by using LQ. This method is expected of
superior sector will support the development of the region. LQ is a
comparison of the magnitude of the role of a sector / industry in an area of
the size of the role the sector / industry nationally. LQ analysis is very
simple, if the result is above 1, the sector's entry into a sector basis and if
the results LQ under 1 then the sector is the non base. From the
calculation of the LQ on the island of Sumatra in 2013, the sector
identified its base is dominated by the agricultural sector as it is in the
province of Aceh, North Sumatra province, the province of Jambi, Bangka
Belitung province, the province of Bengkulu and Lampung provinces. Then
followed by mining and quarrying as in the province of Riau and South
Sumatra, then the manufacturing sector in the province of Riau Island, and
service industries in the province of West Sumatra.
