Abstract

This study has been done to develop of valid, practical and effective Learning Model CIRC-b-FCL for Paragraph Reading study in university. The reasons for developing the model of learning are because there are some problems found in the field, such as the low ability of the students in reading, and also to fulfil the needs of the students and lecturers about it. The CIRC-b-FCL Model was developed with ADDIE Model; Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluation. ADDIE is used to develop the Learning Model of CIRC-b-FCL with the supported components known as the research products; they are CIRC-b-FCL model's book, Students' Guide book, and Teachers' guide. Further, Questionnaires, Observation Sheet, Interview Guideline, and Reading Test are used as the instruments of the research. Then, the Subjects of the research are Students, Lecturers, and some leaderships of IAIN Padangsidimpuan. In addition, there would be experts or validators to evaluate used instruments and the products of the research. After data analysis, the result shows that this development was based on students’ and lecturer’s need. This model is suitable for the university students in learning paragraph reading which is seen from the result of validity and practicalities of the model. The validity of the model was 90% while the practicalities of the model were 79% from the students and 87% from the validators. The result of data analysis also indicated that the model is effective to be used which is proved by the result of the experimental class that is higher after using the CIRC-b-FCL model. It was seen that the model has been successful in increasing learning activeness. It was also seen from the result of Paragraph Reading (79.47) which is more than in control group (68.53), and the students’ learning attitudes (82%). From testing the hypothesis, it is known that the result of Sig. 0.019 and it is smaller than 0.05, and it can be said that the hypothesis is accepted. Finally, it is known that this model is highly recommended as one model for paragraph reading lesson. By the result, it can be said that the CIRC-b-FCL model is valid, practice, and effective for reading paragraph study in university. The model is also recommended for many possible English studies,such as writing.
